The Ogun State House of Assembly Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs has lauded the Yewa North Local Government Council for its commitment to transparency, timely project implementation, and regular convening of Finance and General Purpose Committee (FG&PC) meetings.
Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Jemili Akingbade, gave the commendation during an oversight visit to the local government area, emphasizing that such practices are pivotal in ensuring that the dividends of democracy reach the grassroots effectively.
Speaking on behalf of the committee, Hon. Akingbade, who was accompanied by Honourables Wahab Haruna, Adegoke Adeyanju, Olakunle Sobunkola, Oluseun Adesanya, Minority Leader Lukman Adeleye, Yusuf Sherrif, Damilola Soneye, Dickson Awolaja, Babatunde Tella, and Folawewo Salami, noted that collaboration between council leadership and career officers was essential to avoiding administrative pitfalls and achieving service delivery excellence.
“The steady pace of project completion and the regular holding of FG&PC meetings reflect good governance. It is important that councils continue to align their initiatives with the genuine needs of the people,” Akingbade said. “Transparency and accountability must remain the foundation for every action taken at the grassroots.”
In his response, the Executive Chairman of Yewa North Local Government, Dr. Olusola Akinbode, expressed gratitude to the legislators for their oversight function, which he described as vital to strengthening local governance structures.
“We are encouraged by your visit and recognition,” Dr. Akinbode stated. “Your guidance reinforces our commitment to continue upholding transparent governance and ensuring every project addresses the needs of our communities.”
He further pledged that his administration would remain focused on improving lives through impactful and inclusive development initiatives.
