The Ogun State House of Assembly has called on the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to caution police personnel attached to land-related cases following a petition on alleged invasion and seizure of farmland in Odogbolu Local Government Area.

Speaking on behalf of the House Committee on Lands and Housing, Hon. Oluseun Adesanya, who represented the Chairman, Hon. Damilola Soneye, made the appeal while considering a petition bordering on “threat to lives and property, land grabbing, assault, and unlawful seizure and sale of land” at Omu-Eleni in Odogbolu.

The petition, submitted by Omoju Ogunberu Chambers on behalf of Mr. Ademolu Abiodun, Mr. Tunde Edunoko, and Mr. Temitope Abiodun, alleged that their 70 acres of farmland at Oke-Meri, via Omu-Eleni, was unlawfully seized and sold, while their cash crops were destroyed and they were subjected to sustained harassment.

The Committee re-invited Alhaji Rafiu Akinyemi of Giwa-Oke Aro in Ifo, Folorunsho Lamidi, and Mr. Ogunbowale Lamidi, directing them to appear before lawmakers on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, at 11 a.m. The House warned that failure to honour the invitation would lead to invoking Section 129 of the 1999 Constitution to compel their attendance.

Adesanya stressed that Ogun State already has laws to address land-related disputes, hence external interference by security operatives through indiscriminate arrests should be avoided.
