The Ogun State House of Assembly has commenced an investigation into the alleged illegal sale of government lands belonging to the State Housing Corporation, directing concerned families to present all relevant land documents for proper scrutiny.

The Assembly’s Committee on Lands and Housing, led by Hon. Damilola Soneye, issued the directive during its latest sitting on the ongoing dispute over lands located within Ibido Community Area, Sagamu Estate, Sagamu Local Government.

Families involved, including Emmanuel Osho, Owodunni Sodipo, Abiodun Soneye, Adeyiga Jeje Lambo, and Hammed Sodipo, have been ordered to reappear before the Committee on Thursday, July 3, 2025, with perimeter surveys of the disputed land, Certificates of Occupancy (C of O), and building permits granted to individuals currently occupying the area.

The lawmakers also mandated the Management of the Housing Corporation to provide records of compensation allegedly paid to original landowners at the time of acquisition in 1977.

“We need every relevant document to thoroughly investigate this matter. If our findings reveal that the Housing Corporation has no rightful claim to the land, they will be asked to vacate. The same applies to the families laying claim without valid documents,” Hon. Soneye declared.

To further authenticate claims and confirm land boundaries, the Office of the Surveyor General from the State Bureau of Lands and Survey has been directed to submit necessary documentation at the next meeting.

Speaking on the matter, Vice Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Samisudeen Lawal, urged the affected families to cooperate with the Assembly, stressing that confrontation would only worsen the situation.

“We are committed to resolving this issue peacefully and in accordance with the law. We appeal to all parties to exercise patience,” Lawal added.

Meanwhile, the Committee expressed dissatisfaction over the refusal of nine individuals earlier summoned concerning alleged encroachment and land grabbing at the Housing Corporation’s Itanrin Estate in Ijebu-Ode to honour the Assembly’s invitation.

Hon. Soneye warned that failure to comply may leave the Committee with no choice but to invoke its constitutional powers to compel their appearance.

“The Assembly will not tolerate illegal acquisition of government property or defiance of its directives. We are determined to protect government lands and uphold the rule of law across the State,” Soneye stated.
