Nigeria has secured its fifth seat on the prestigious INTERPOL Africa Committee following the election of Commissioner of Police Olubode Ojajuni during the 27th African Regional Conference held in Cape Town, South Africa.
According to a statement issued on Friday by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the election, which was keenly contested, grants Nigeria a two-year tenure on the Committee, further cementing the country’s growing influence in international policing.
The INTERPOL Africa Committee is responsible for advising the African Regional Conference in carrying out its mandate, facilitating its sessions, and identifying strategic crime priorities. It also plays a vital role in strengthening cross-border police cooperation, promoting best practices, and developing projects to enhance security across Africa.
The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, congratulated CP Ojajuni on the victory, describing it as a milestone achievement that reaffirms Nigeria’s leadership in the fight against transnational crime, terrorism, and other emerging security threats.
Egbetokun also pledged the commitment of the Nigeria Police to professionalism, integrity, and sustained international cooperation, stressing that the Force will continue to engage actively with global partners to promote peace and security worldwide.
