The Ondo State Government has declared Monday, February 2, and Tuesday, February 3, 2026, as public holidays to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the creation of the state.
The announcement was contained in a press statement issued on Friday by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Prince Ebenezer Adeniyan, following the approval of Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa.
The declaration is aimed at enabling residents of the state to fully participate in activities lined up for the golden jubilee celebration, which marks five decades of growth, resilience, and collective progress since the creation of Ondo State.
Governor Aiyedatiwa described the anniversary as a significant moment in the history of the state, urging citizens to reflect on the journey so far and appreciate the contributions of leaders and citizens who have played roles in its development.
He called on residents to use the holiday period to actively join the celebrations and renew their commitment to the shared vision of building a more united and prosperous Ondo State.
The statement also advised essential service providers to make adequate arrangements to ensure uninterrupted delivery of critical services during the public holidays.
Ondo State was created in 1976, and the 50th anniversary celebration is expected to feature a series of cultural, social, and developmental activities across the state.
