Governor of Ondo State, Dr. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, on Sunday joined President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and other top government functionaries in Ijebu Ode, Ogun State, to pay last respects to the late Awùjalẹ̀ of Ijẹbuland, Ọba Sikiru Kayọde Adetọna.
Governor Aiyedatiwa, alongside his colleague governors, was part of the high-level delegation led by President Tinubu to commiserate with the Ogun State Government, the people of Ijebu, and the royal family over the passing of the revered monarch.
The delegation was received at the palace by Governor Dapo Abiodun. The late Awùjalẹ̀, who passed on at the age of 91, had ascended the throne in 1960 and reigned for over six decades. He was celebrated across Nigeria for his wisdom, dignity, and influence on traditional leadership.
Governor Aiyedatiwa also joined other sympathisers for the Fidau prayer held at the Otunba Dipo Dina International Stadium, Ijebu Ode. The solemn prayer session was attended by Islamic scholars, royal fathers, political leaders, and prominent Nigerians who offered prayers for the peaceful repose of the king’s soul.
Speaking at the event, many described the late monarch as a pillar of strength in Nigeria’s traditional institution, a custodian of culture, and a man of great foresight whose reign brought prestige to the Ijebu people and the Yoruba race at large.
Other state governors present at the event included AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara, Douye Diri of Bayelsa, and Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti, all of whom extended condolences to Governor Abiodun and the royal household.
