In a strategic move aimed at boosting internally generated revenue and eliminating extortion, the Osun State Government has adopted a unified ticketing system for commercial motorcycle and tricycle operators across the state.

The resolution followed a meeting between government officials and representatives of commercial motorcycle operators (popularly known as Okada) held at the State Secretariat. The deliberation was presided over by the Osun State Commissioner for Transportation, Hon. Sesan Oyedele.

Speaking during the meeting, Hon. Oyedele emphasized the commitment of the administration of Senator Ademola Adeleke to ending multiple taxation and unofficial levies imposed on transport operators.

“This government will not fold its arms and watch our people being extorted by unscrupulous individuals. We are determined to boost the state’s revenue without putting unnecessary burden on commercial operators,” Oyedele stated.

He clarified that, under the new unified ticketing system, motorcycle riders are to pay N100 daily, while tricycle (Marwa) operators are to pay N200 per day. He assured operators that no additional or hidden charges would be tolerated.

“We are putting a stop to all forms of ticketing duplicity and financial leakages. What we want is a transparent system that guarantees fairness and accountability,” the Commissioner added.

The government also pledged to promote unity within the various transport associations while ensuring operators are treated fairly under the new system.

Reacting to the development, the Chairman of the Okada Riders Association in Osun State, Comrade Sikiru Ayobami (popularly known as Ado-Ignona), commended the Commissioner for stepping in to resolve longstanding issues.

“We appreciate this timely intervention. It shows that this government listens. We will ensure peace and cooperation within our association and treat all members fairly,” Ayobami assured.

The meeting was also attended by key officials including the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Transportation, Mr. Isiaka Yahaya, and the Director of Transport Operations, Engr. Ayodeji Oyewole, alongside other top-ranking directors in the ministry.
