At least 100 children are expected to participate in the 2025 edition of the Summer Children Reading Camp (SCRC) organised by the SixthSense Initiative in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

The weeklong indoor camp, scheduled to hold from August 3 to 9, will take place at WOOTEN Hall, Baptist Girls College, Idi-Aba, and will host boys and girls between the ages of 8 and 15 in a safe, interactive, and stimulating environment.

In a release signed by the Founder of the SixthSense Initiative and Coordinator of Sixth Sense Series Publications, Abiodun Oladimeji Lasile, disclosed that this year’s edition, which marks the 8th in the series, is aimed at shaping young minds through structured reading activities, group learning, and mentorship.

“Over 100 children are already registered for this edition. Reading goes beyond academics. It develops the mind, expands imagination, and prepares children for the leadership roles ahead of them,” Lasile said.

The Summer Children Reading Camp is a twin programme of the Children Reading Competition Programme (CRCP), and both initiatives focus on promoting a reading culture, critical thinking, and moral grooming in children.

Themed around the philosophy that “children that read together will think together to solve common problems together,” the camp will feature interactive sessions, peer reviews, book discussions, optional reading modules, and character-building activities.

Facilitators drawn from diverse educational and moral backgrounds are expected to guide the children throughout the duration of the camp.

The initiative, according to Lasile, is open to partnerships, sponsorships, donations, media support, and volunteer participation from stakeholders in the education and development sectors.

“Our vision is clear — to raise a generation of thinkers, doers, and nation builders through reading,” he added.

Interested individuals or organisations are encouraged to support the programme and invest in the future of young Nigerians.
