The Oyo State Police Command has placed its operatives on red alert across the state ahead of the annual Founders’ Day celebration of the Neo-Black Movement of Africa, popularly known as the Black Axe Confraternity.

The event, scheduled for Monday, July 7, 2025, has raised security concerns, with police intelligence indicating possible large-scale violence and reprisal attacks by rival cult groups.

In a statement on Sunday, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Adewale Osifeso, confirmed that personnel have been strategically deployed to prevent any form of public disorder during the period.

“Our intelligence-led policing and community partnership efforts have yielded vital information suggesting that rival gangs may engage in large-scale retribution and mayhem during this event,” Osifeso stated.

He explained that the command has also held sensitisation sessions with hoteliers, lounge owners, and operators of studio apartments, warning them against providing their facilities for gatherings associated with cult groups known for violent activities.

“Our intelligence suggests that the movement may use the occasion to execute plans that could lead to serious public disorder, including reprisals against rival cult groups,” Osifeso added.

The police spokesman urged parents, guardians, community leaders, and influential figures to engage the youth on the dangers of cultism and the consequences of participating in violent or unlawful gatherings.

He assured residents that the police remain committed to ensuring public safety before, during, and after the Black Axe Founders’ Day celebration, calling for public support in maintaining peace and order.
