Portugal clinched their second UEFA Nations League title on Sunday night after a dramatic penalty shootout victory over Spain, following a pulsating 2-2 draw in regulation time at the Allianz Arena in Munich, Germany.

The tightly contested final saw both teams exchange goals across 90 minutes, with Spain drawing first blood early on before Portugal drew level.

The pattern repeated itself, as the Spaniards regained the lead, only for Cristiano Ronaldo to fire home a crucial second equalizer to push the match into extra time.

Ronaldo, who had given a spirited performance throughout, was substituted before extra time due to cramp. Despite his absence in the additional 30 minutes, Portugal held their nerve in the decisive penalty shootout.

Ruben Neves emerged the hero, confidently converting the winning spot-kick to give Portugal a 5-3 victory in the shootout.

“The feeling is indescribable,” Neves said after the match. “We knew we had to dig deep. Spain are a top team, but we showed our character again. To be the one to take the final penalty what a moment!”

Portugal manager Roberto Martinez praised his players for their resilience and unity. “This team has heart, experience, and belief,” he said. “Even when we trailed twice, they kept fighting. It’s a special night for Portuguese football.”

The match was witnessed by tens of thousands of fans in Munich, with celebrations erupting as Portugal lifted the trophy for the second time since winning the inaugural edition in 2019.

Cristiano Ronaldo, who now adds another international title to his glittering career, said in a brief post-match interview: “What matters is the team. I gave all I could, and I’m proud of what we’ve achieved again.”

Spain’s coach Luis de la Fuente admitted the loss was painful but praised his squad’s performance. “We played well and created chances. It’s unfortunate to lose on penalties, but I’m proud of my players,” he said.
