The evolving burial customs for Yoruba monarchs have stirred serious concern among culture watchers, prompting a high-powered discourse led by two notable Nigerians – renowned Ifa priest and scholar, Prof. Wande Abimbola, and respected preacher, Pastor Femi Emmanuel.

Both personalities are billed to share opposing views at the 34th edition of Boiling Point Arena, a global interview discourse focusing on the controversial shifts in traditional practices, especially following the recent transition of the Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Adetona.

The discussion, which will take place virtually via Zoom on Sunday, August 10, 2025, at 8 pm, will explore the clash between secrecy and transparency in the burial rites of Yoruba kings and what such changes mean for the future of the culture.

The topic is: “Secrecy Vs Transparency: The Great Battle Over Yoruba Monarchs’ Burial Traditions and the Future of Yoruba Culture.”

Moderated by media professional and public relations strategist, Dr. Ayo Arowojolu, the session will feature the Olowu of Owu Kingdom, Oba Prof. Saka Matemilola, as keynote speaker and chairman of the occasion.

Prof. Wande Abimbola, who holds the revered traditional title Awise Agbaye, was appointed by the late Ooni of Ife, Oba Okunade Sijuwade, and is one of the leading authorities in Yoruba cosmology.

On the other hand, Pastor Emmanuel, General Overseer of Living Spring Church International and a former Deputy Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, brings a Christian perspective to the unfolding debate.

According to the organisers, the discussion will not only interrogate spiritual leanings and religious influences but will also delve into legal frameworks, government roles, and the significance of cultural preservation.

The once-a-month programme will be aired live on six radio stations across Lagos, Ogun, and Delta states — including WASH 94.9FM, Sweet 107.1FM, Roots 97.1FM, Erimbe 94.7FM, Women Radio 91.7FM, and Kruzz 92.9FM — and also on cable via NSTV on GoTV Channel 316.

Boiling Point is a news and general interest platform comprising over 300 members including professors, traditional rulers, technocrats, legal luminaries, media veterans, and high-ranking security officials.

As divergent views emerge on whether recent monarchs’ burials align with or betray core Yoruba beliefs, this edition of Boiling Point promises to open new perspectives on a matter deeply rooted in the soul of the Yoruba people.
