Six people have been confirmed dead while two others sustained injuries following a road crash on the Lagos Ibadan Expressway.
The accident occurred on Thursday at the NASFAT Junction, Ogun State, involving a Mazda commercial bus and a Volvo truck.
The Ogun State Sector of the Federal Road Safety Corps confirmed the incident in a statement issued in Abeokuta by the sector Public Relations Officer, Odunsin Afolabi.
According to the FRSC, the crash was caused by overspeeding, which led to loss of control by one of the vehicles.
“Six people were killed in the crash, while two others sustained varying degrees of injuries,” Afolabi said.
He explained that the accident happened at about 14:36 hours on January 1, 2026, while the FRSC rescue team received a distress call at about 14:40 hours.
“Our personnel arrived at the scene at about 14:50 hours along the Lagos Ibadan Expressway at NASFAT Junction,” he added.
Afolabi noted that officers from the Mowe Unit, Ibafo Outpost, and the ambulance team from the Ojota Unit Command, alongside personnel of the MTD RCCG Police Division and TRACE Mowe Division, participated in the rescue operation.
The injured victims were taken to Famobis Hospital, Lotto, for medical attention, while the corpses of the deceased were deposited at the morgue.
Meanwhile, the Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps in Ogun State, Corps Commander Akinwumi Fasakin, has ordered a full investigation into the crash.
“The corps has directed its crash investigation team to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the incident, in line with our standard procedure,” Afolabi stated.
The FRSC has again cautioned motorists to adhere strictly to speed limits and other traffic regulations to prevent avoidable loss of lives on the nation’s highways.
