Popular Ibadan entrepreneur and founder of Planet 3R, Adejoke Lasisi, has cautioned men to steer clear of career-driven women if their intention is to frustrate or end their dreams after marriage.
In an open letter shared on her social media page, Lasisi condemned the growing trend of men stopping their wives from pursuing their passions, businesses, or careers after marriage, saying it is unfair to destroy what a woman has worked hard to build simply because she is now a wife.
“Please, if you know you’re not going to allow your wife to continue doing what she loves doing before marriage, leave her for another man who would not stop her career but support her as well,” Lasisi said.
She noted that it would be better for such men to marry women who are not interested in building a career, rather than deceiving hardworking women into marriage only to clip their wings afterward.
According to her, many women invest years, resources and energy into building a career or business before marriage, only to have their husbands force them to abandon it for the sake of being a housewife.
“It’s not fair to keep ending women’s careers in the name of marriage after she and her parents must have invested so much,” she stressed.
Lasisi, who described herself as a woman determined to live a life of impact, revealed that she has personally experienced similar situations where some men tried to dictate her life and career path even before dating.
“Some people I never even agreed to date already started telling me how I’ll have to relocate to their country and stop going on business trips. Others said they don’t like the topics I discuss on social media,” she revealed.
She urged women to recognize such red flags early and walk away from relationships that will demand sacrificing their careers, unless they are prepared for such.
“Some men will even say ‘I don’t want you to work, just take care of my children.’ But have you forgotten you can’t give what you don’t have? A happy wife will surely raise happy children,” she stated.
The social entrepreneur emphasised that many women desire to be more than just wives or mothers, explaining that it’s not only about making money but about living a purposeful and impactful life.
“Stop going after career women if you know you will stop her from doing what she loves. Let me increase the volume for those sitting at the back,” Lasisi concluded.
