Tinubu has sent another batch of non-career ambassadorial nominees to the Senate, naming former service chiefs and top political figures among those selected for foreign postings.
The list, which reached the chamber on Thursday during plenary, featured the immediate past Sole Administrator of Rivers State and former Chief of Naval Staff, Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas.
Also included were former presidential aide, Ita Enang, former Imo State First Lady, Chioma Ohakim, and former Minister of Interior and former Chief of Army Staff, Abdulrahman Dambazau.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio read the letter from Tinubu on the floor. In the message, Tinubu appealed to the lawmakers to give urgent attention to the names so that key diplomatic offices that have been vacant for months can be filled without further delay.
According to the letter, “the prompt confirmation of these nominees will help strengthen Nigeria’s representation abroad and improve coordination with partner nations.”
Akpabio later sent the list to the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs with a one-week deadline to complete the screening and report back.
More details are expected as the process continues.
