There was panic in Agamo community in Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State on Wednesday night as gunmen suspected to be kidnappers stormed the area and killed the Alagamo of Agamoland, Oba Kehinde Falodun.
The incident, which occurred around 7.10 p.m. on February 18, 2026, was confirmed by the Police Public Relations Officer of the state command, Abayomi Jimoh.
According to information gathered, about six armed men invaded the residence of the monarch with the intention of abducting him. The traditional ruler was said to have resisted the attempt, leading to a struggle between him and the attackers.
He was reportedly shot several times, and when the bullets failed to penetrate, the assailants attacked him with machetes.
The monarch was later found a few metres away from his palace and was confirmed dead at the scene in the early hours of Thursday.
Jimoh explained that the report was received at the Divisional Police Office at about 7.50 p.m. from a community leader, High Chief Ajewole Clement of New Town, Itaogbolu, who informed the police that armed men had forcefully taken the monarch from his residence.
He said, “Upon receipt of the report, the Divisional Police Officer, alongside command Tactical teams, promptly mobilised officers in collaboration with local security outfits, including Atuluse Security, local hunters, and Amotekun operatives, to comb adjoining bushes and surrounding areas in a bid to apprehend the perpetrators.
“Efforts are ongoing to track down and arrest the fleeing suspects. Monitoring and surveillance activities have been intensified across the area to ensure the safety of residents and prevent further breakdown of law and order.”
The police command assured residents that those responsible for the killing would be brought to justice and urged members of the public with credible information to report to the nearest police station.
