Residents of Iho community in Ikeduru Local Government Area of Imo State have been thrown into mourning after a truck crashed into a residential building, killing a mother of three, Mrs Chioma Ogu.
The tragic incident occurred late on Monday night when a truck loaded with chippings reportedly lost control and rammed into the couple’s bungalow. Mrs Ogu was said to be inside the house at the time of the crash.
A community source, Mr Emma Emeka, said the impact of the crash left the woman dead, while her husband, Mr Ogu, sustained severe injuries and is currently battling for his life in an undisclosed hospital.
“We were already in our houses when we heard a loud noise, followed by cries for help. When we rushed out, we saw that a truck had crashed into Mr Ogu’s house. Mrs Chioma was lying lifeless after being crushed. Her husband was seriously injured,” Emeka said.
He added that the driver was alleged to have dozed off before the truck veered off the road and ploughed into the building.
The incident has left the community in shock, especially as the deceased was reportedly preparing for her mother’s burial scheduled for this weekend before her untimely death.
Efforts to get a reaction from the Imo State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Henry Okoye, were unsuccessful as calls and messages sent to him were not returned as of the time of filing this report.
