The Trade Union Congress (TUC) of Nigeria has re-elected Comrade Festus Osifo as its National President for a second term, solidifying his leadership for the next four years.

Osifo, who first assumed office in 2022, was returned unopposed during the first Quadrennial Delegates Conference of the congress, held in Abuja on Friday. His new term will span from 2025 to 2029.

In his post-election remarks, Osifo thanked the delegates for entrusting him with another term, pledging to deepen his commitment to the labour cause.

“I am humbled by the confidence you’ve placed in me once again. We will work day and night to ensure Nigerian workers are not just heard, but protected and empowered,” he said.

He outlined his agenda for the new tenure, which includes a more aggressive advocacy for improved wages, increased state subventions, and the establishment of national secretariats in all states of the federation.

“Our focus will be on sustainable welfare, effective union representation, and expansion into sectors where workers’ rights are still being ignored,” Osifo added.

One of the key goals of the new administration is to confront private sector employers who resist unionisation. The TUC president vowed to take decisive action.

“We will no longer beg for fair treatment; we will demand it — with strategy, with strength, and with solidarity. This is not a time to be quiet. This is a time to be bold, to speak truth to power, and to build a future that honors labour,” he declared.

Osifo also praised the newly elected 19-member National Administrative Council (NAC), describing them as a formidable team.

“These are men of timber and calibre, representing various sectors from construction to the civil service. Together, we will chart a new course for labour in Nigeria,” he said.
