Asaba – Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have arrested two suspects in connection with the killing of retired Judge Ifeoma Okogwu.
The suspects, identified as Godwin Mngumi and Nnaji Obalum, were apprehended following a coordinated investigation by the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
The Command’s spokesperson, SP Edafe Bright, disclosed that Mngumi, a security guard assigned to the late judge’s residence, was arrested in Anambra State.
Bright explained that Mngumi allegedly invited Obalum and another accomplice, still at large, to join him in committing the crime.
“The police have arrested one Godwin Mngumi, 25, the security guard who allegedly murdered Justice Ifeoma Okogwu (Rtd),” Bright said. He added that the late judge’s phone was recovered from Mngumi.
Obalum has also been taken into custody, while a manhunt continues for the third suspect. The police urged anyone with information on the whereabouts of the remaining suspect to come forward.
The retired judge was found dead on November 23 at her home in Asaba, with her hands and mouth tied, and the house ransacked.
The night security guard previously assigned to her residence had absconded immediately after the incident, raising suspicions of internal involvement.
SP Bright affirmed the command’s commitment to ensuring justice for the late judge, stating that the suspects would be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded.
