Two people have died after a bus driving against traffic collided head-on with a truck along the Ososa section of the Sagamu–Benin Expressway in Ogun State.
The Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE) confirmed the incident, which occurred on Saturday.
TRACE spokesperson Babatunde Akinbiyi said 21 people were involved in the crash, which featured a yellow Toyota Hiace bus (BDG 274YG) and a blue Benz truck (AKD 115YL). Several passengers sustained injuries, though the exact number has not been specified.
“A ghastly fatal crash occurred at Ososa slope inbound to Sagamu from Ijebu-Ode. According to an eyewitness, the Toyota bus drove against traffic and had a head-on collision with the Benz truck,” Akinbiyi said. “Two deaths have been recorded.”
The bodies of the deceased and the injured were taken to Ijebu-Ode General Hospital. The vehicles involved were towed to the Nigeria Police Force, Obalende Division, Ijebu-Ode.
The Ososa section of the Sagamu–Benin Expressway has a history of frequent accidents. TRACE attributes the crash to speeding and loss of control, adding that rescue efforts are ongoing.
