The United States Consulate has partnered with the Ogun State Government to boost technological advancement and youth empowerment with the unveiling of the ‘Window on America’ project in Abeokuta.

The project, initiated by the US Consulate in collaboration with GFA Technologies, was unveiled on Thursday at the Ogun State Tech Hub, Kobape Road, Abeokuta.

Governor Dapo Abiodun, while speaking at the event, said the initiative reflects the state’s commitment to using technology to drive sustainable growth and create opportunities for young people.

“This is more than just a space; it is a platform for knowledge exchange, skills development, and collaboration between our young minds and their counterparts across the world,” Abiodun said.

The governor explained that the ‘Window on America’ centre is part of the administration’s investment in digital infrastructure and innovation clusters to prepare Ogun youths for global opportunities.

He described the project as a product of a strategic public-private partnership involving the Ogun State Government, GFA Technologies, and the United States Mission.

Abiodun noted that the centre will serve as a bridge connecting the aspirations of young Nigerians to global opportunities, adding that it offers free programmes, an English conversation club, digital literacy workshops, discussions on global issues, and access to American books and digital resources.

“These are not mere amenities; they are essential tools for building the future workforce,” the governor stated.

Also speaking, Acting Consular General of the United States, JoEllen Gorg, said the project represents what is possible through strong, innovative leadership and collaboration.

She revealed that the centre is part of the growing network of 29 American spaces across Nigeria and the second in Ogun State, describing it as a hub for entrepreneurial, leadership, and technological development.

Gorg urged youths, entrepreneurs, teachers, and creative minds to take advantage of the facility, which provides modern computers, fast internet, and access to thousands of books, academic articles, dissertations, and e-library resources.

“The Window on America is a symbol of opportunities. It is designed to sharpen the skills of young Nigerians and guide them towards exploring educational, cultural, and professional possibilities,” she added.

Chief Executive Officer of GFA Technologies, Debo Omololu, disclosed that his company has so far invested N400 million in Ogun State and employed over 1,000 software engineers at the centre.

He encouraged youths to maximise the opportunity presented by the initiative to position themselves for relevance in the global tech space.

The Acting Consular General had earlier paid a courtesy visit to Governor Abiodun at his office in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, where they discussed further collaboration between the state and the US mission.
