United States War Secretary, Pete Hegseth, has met with Nigeria’s National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, to discuss the rising attacks on Christian communities across the country.
Speaking on X on Friday, Hegseth said the United States, under President Donald Trump’s leadership, is intensifying its partnership with Nigeria to address the activities of jihadist groups accused of targeting Christians.
“Yesterday, I met with Nigeria’s National Security Advisor and his team to discuss the horrific violence against Christians in their country. Under @POTUS leadership, DOW is working aggressively with Nigeria to end the persecution of Christians by jihadist terrorists,” he wrote.
Hegseth’s remarks come after Trump, in a recent post on Truth Social, instructed the U.S. War Department to prepare for possible intervention in Nigeria, warning that all aid could be halted if attacks continue.
He described the situation as a failure by the Nigerian government to protect its citizens.
Trump further indicated that America might take military action to eliminate those responsible for the attacks if the situation does not improve.
