The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a suspect, Alhaji Saburi Lateef Ayinde, popularly known as OKI-OCEAN, over the alleged murder of a 61-year-old retired teacher, Mrs Adedotun Adeteju Oluwaseun, in Abeokuta.
Ayinde was arrested on October 19, nearly eight months after the deceased was found dead at her residence in Agbaakin Emere, Bode-Olude, Abeokuta, on February 28, 2026.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, disclosed this in a statement, adding that the case had been transferred to the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department, Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation.
The retired teacher’s body was reportedly discovered in the toilet of her residence a day after she returned from a retirement celebration organised by her colleagues.
According to the police, preliminary investigations indicated that the deceased was allegedly strangled and attacked with a machete during an altercation with the suspect.
The command said Ayinde had reportedly confessed to the killing, linking the incident to a financial disagreement between him and the deceased.
He allegedly told investigators that he had given Oluwaseun ₦3.45 million for safekeeping and later expected her to lend him ₦1.5 million to facilitate the purchase of another vehicle.
The police, however, said investigators were working to verify the suspect’s account and establish the circumstances surrounding the killing.
The Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, Bode Ojajuni, commended the officers involved in the investigation for their persistence and professionalism.
Ojajuni assured residents that the command would pursue the case to its logical conclusion, stressing the commitment of the police to ensuring that justice was served.
The command added that the suspect would be charged to court upon the conclusion of the investigation.
