The Osun State Government has denied allegations that it is pressuring local government officials to change account signatories in favor of newly elected officials.

The claim, made by the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), suggested that Finance Directors and Heads of Local Administration were being taken to undisclosed locations and coerced into altering council account details, allegedly in defiance of a Court of Appeal ruling that upheld the 2022 local government elections.

APM Chairman, Adewale Adebayo, described the alleged actions as a “violation of democracy and a blatant disregard for the judiciary.”

However, the Osun State Commissioner for Information, Kolapo Alimi, dismissed the allegations as baseless, stating, “There is no directive from the state government forcing any official to change account signatories. These claims are unfounded and intended to mislead the public.”

Meanwhile, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has urged local government workers to return to work and remain neutral in the ongoing political dispute.

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), however, rejected the call, maintaining that workers would not resume duties until their security was guaranteed.

A civil society group, The Osun Masterminds, has urged all parties to pursue legal means of resolving the conflict and to refrain from making inflammatory statements that could heighten political tensions ahead of the 2026 gubernatorial election.
