The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has confirmed the rescue of Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Modestus Ojiebe, who was abducted along the Abuja-Kaduna Expressway on Sunday.
Ojiebe, an officer attached to the Kwara State Police Command, was reportedly attacked while attempting to fix his broken-down vehicle near the Dei-Dei Police Barracks in Abuja.
According to sources, the assailants searched him and his wife, robbing them of their mobile phones and ATM cards. However, upon discovering his police identity card, they forcibly took him away, abandoning his wife and their vehicle at the scene.
Counter-insurgency expert, Zagazola Makama, had earlier reported that the kidnappers swiftly fled with Ojiebe in their vehicle, leaving his wife stranded.
Confirming the rescue operation, the spokesperson for the FCT Police Command, Josephine Adeh, said, “Upon receiving the distress call, Divisional Police Officer (DPO) Dawaki acted swiftly, leading his patrol team while alerting all police checkpoints and key entry and exit points into the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
This decisive response enabled the successful rescue of the officer and his reunion with his family on the same night.”
She further noted that efforts were underway to track and apprehend the suspects, who had abandoned the victim and fled into the bush in Garaku, Nasarawa State.
The Commissioner of Police, FCT, CP Olatunji Disu, urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities or individuals.
