Unknown gunmen have abducted two students of the Federal University of Lafia, Nasarawa State, after police operatives rescued one of the three victims initially taken during an attack on an off campus students’ lodge.
The Nasarawa State Police Command disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday by its spokesperson, SP Ramhan Nansel, saying the incident occurred at about 9.20pm on Tuesday following a distress call from the Chief Security Officer of the Federal University of Lafia.
According to the police, the three students were abducted from Living Seed Lodge, located in a bushy area on the outskirts of the students’ residential community in Lafia.
Nansel said police operatives responded immediately to the report and launched a coordinated search operation in the surrounding forest, leading to the rescue of one of the abducted students.
He said, “Upon receipt of the report, police operatives responded immediately and commenced a coordinated search of the surrounding forest. Their swift response led to the rescue of one of the victims.”
The police spokesperson added that efforts had been intensified to rescue the two remaining students still in captivity.
He stated, “Meanwhile, intensive efforts are ongoing to secure the safe rescue of the remaining victims in captivity, in line with the directives of the Commissioner of Police.”
The command assured residents that all available resources were being deployed to ensure the safe rescue of the remaining victims and appealed to members of the public to remain calm while providing credible information that could assist the ongoing operation.
