A 43-year-old man, Abraham Michael, has been arrested by the Ogun State Community, Social Orientation and Safety Corps, codenamed So-Safe Corps, for allegedly abducting and raping a 19-year-old woman in the Gasline area of Sango, Ogun State.
The arrest was disclosed in a statement issued on Thursday by the Director of Information and Public Relations of the Corps, Assistant Commander of Corps Adegunwa Adegbuyi, on behalf of the State Commander, Dr Soji Ganzallo.
According to the statement, the suspect was apprehended following a distress call received from the Shepherd-in-Charge of Celestial Church of Christ, Christ Light Parish, Ijoko, Pastor Oluwaseyi Popoola, who reported the disappearance of the victim, identified as Miss Liasu Pelumi.
The Corps said the Divisional Officer of the Sango Adalemo Toll Gate Divisional Headquarters, SC Okunuga Joseph, received credible information from the pastor on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, at about 10 p.m., that the teenager, who was under his care, had been missing for several days.
The statement added that while efforts were ongoing to locate the victim, the pastor allegedly received a telephone call from an individual demanding a ransom of ₦60,000 for her release.
It read, “Acting swiftly and working on a tip-off from a member of the community, operatives of the Sango-Adalemo-Toll Gate Division, with the approval of the Zonal Commander, Ado-Odo Ota Zonal Command, ACC Tajudeen Odunmbaku, mobilized to the suspect’s address at Idowu Akinsanya Street, along Babaonigba, Gasline Road, Sango.”
The Corps stated that on getting to the location, the suspect allegedly attempted to mislead the operatives by diverting them from where the victim was being held.
It added, “On arriving at the said address, the suspect tried to divert the operatives from the actual location the suspect was held but the officers stayed on course, the victim was rescued and the suspect was arrested.”
According to the statement, the suspect admitted during interrogation that the victim had been in his custody since July 2, 2026.
The Corps said the matter had been transferred to the Nigeria Police Force, Sango Divisional Headquarters, for further investigation and possible prosecution.
Ganzallo reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the state, urging residents to provide timely and credible information on suspicious movements and criminal activities to enable prompt intervention by security agencies.
