The Ogun State Police Command has killed two suspected kidnappers and recovered an AK-47 rifle, mobile phones and other exhibits during a follow up operation after securing the release of the abducted Prince of Okun Owa, Prince Idris.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Thursday by the command, which said the operation was carried out by operatives of its Anti Kidnapping Unit following sustained intelligence gathering and tactical operations.
According to the police, Prince Idris was abducted at about 7.30pm on June 30, 2026, after armed men invaded his residence in Okun Owa and whisked him away.
The command said the Commissioner of Police immediately ordered the activation of the Anti Kidnapping Unit and other tactical teams to rescue the victim and arrest those behind the abduction.
The statement noted that sustained pressure mounted on the gang forced the kidnappers to release the victim unharmed on July 3.
It added that operatives later acted on credible intelligence and stormed the Agoro and Imodi axis, where the suspected kidnappers confronted the police with gunfire.
The statement read, “On sighting the police, the kidnappers engaged the operatives in a gun duel. The operatives responded decisively, leading to the neutralisation of two kidnappers, while other members of the gang escaped with gunshot wounds.”
The police further disclosed that items recovered from the scene included “one AK-47 rifle with one empty magazine, two mobile phones, a bag suspected to be a ransom bag, and other exhibits linked to the criminal operation.”
The command said the bodies of the two suspects had been deposited at a government morgue for autopsy, while efforts were ongoing to arrest the fleeing members of the gang and recover additional exhibits.
