The Ogun State Government has expressed deep appreciation for the Federal Government’s adoption of Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED), Ijagun, as a Federal University, describing it as a milestone in the advancement of education in Nigeria.

Governor Dapo Abiodun in a statement, lauded the decision, stating that it highlights his administration’s dedication to securing the growth and sustainability of Nigeria’s first specialised university of education.

“This transition is a testament to our administration’s unwavering commitment to advancing education and ensuring the continued growth of TASUED,” the state government said in a statement.

“Governor Abiodun’s administration has worked diligently to secure this transition, recognizing the strategic importance of TASUED in producing highly skilled educators for the nation.”

The Federal Government’s approval, granted by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, further strengthens teacher education in Nigeria. The Ogun State Government expressed gratitude to the President for his visionary leadership in prioritizing educational development.

“We deeply appreciate President Tinubu for granting this approval and for his unwavering commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s education sector. His leadership in prioritizing teacher education and institutional development will undoubtedly have a lasting impact on the nation’s educational landscape,” the statement added.

The decision also pays homage to the legacies of Chief Obafemi Awolowo and Dr. Tai Solarin, two prominent figures in Nigeria’s educational history. Additionally, the state acknowledged the role played by the Awujale of Ijebuland in ensuring TASUED’s survival in 2012 when it faced possible closure.

TASUED now joins Alvan Ikoku Federal University of Education, Owerri, and Adeyemi Federal University of Education, Ondo, as the third federal university dedicated to teacher education in the country.

The Ogun State Government reaffirmed its commitment to supporting TASUED’s new status, ensuring its continued excellence as a premier institution for training educators.

“As a government that prioritizes quality education, we remain committed to fostering policies and initiatives that will complement TASUED’s new status, ensuring it continues to thrive as a center of excellence in education,” the statement concluded.
