Senator Solomon Adeola, the All Progressives Congress governorship candidate for Ogun State and Chairman of the Senate Committee on Appropriations, has urged Muslims and other Nigerians to pray for peace and security in the country as the nation approaches another season of electoral campaigns and elections.
Adeola made the call in a statement issued on Tuesday by his Media Adviser, Chief Kayode Odunaro, to mark the Eid-el-Maulud celebration commemorating the birth of Prophet Mohammed.
The senator urged Muslims to emulate the life and teachings of Prophet Mohammed, particularly in the areas of love, humility, peaceful coexistence, religious tolerance and sacrifice.
He said adherence to the teachings and precepts of the Prophet would help minimise many of the challenges confronting society, stressing the need for Nigerians to embrace values capable of promoting unity and peaceful coexistence.
According to him, the challenging times in the country require collective efforts from all Nigerians, including prayers and supplication to Almighty Allah for divine intervention.
“Our national challenges require all hands to be on deck including supplication to Almighty Allah for divine intervention to crown our sowing and sacrifices with great harvest,” Adeola said.
He further noted that Prophet Mohammed demonstrated important principles for peaceful and responsible living through his teachings and personal conduct.
“In his lifetime, Prophet Mohammed set critical criteria and precepts in all areas of life in his teachings and personal life. The world will be a better place for all if all can emulate the Holy Prophet examples of piousness, love humility, tolerance and sacrifice,” he said.
Adeola urged Muslims celebrating the festival to use the occasion to reflect on the teachings of the Prophet and strengthen their commitment to peace, unity and religious tolerance, particularly as Nigeria prepares for another electoral cycle.
