A Business Administration graduate, Akeem Muraina, has explained why he wears suits and dresses like a corporate executive while selling meat at his stand in Camp Junction, Abeokuta, Ogun State.

Muraina, popularly known online as the “Korporate” meat seller, said his unusual style was inspired by his desire to change the perception of people about meat sellers and demonstrate that professionalism and dignity can be found in every legitimate occupation.

Speaking to journalist, Muraina said wearing a suit while selling meat had always been his dream, adding that every workplace deserves to be treated with pride, irrespective of its nature.

“You know, wearing a suit to sell meat has always been my dream because I see people wearing suits to offices everywhere. But no matter how small your office is, it is still your office,” he said.

According to him, his dressing is also aimed at challenging the stereotype that meat sellers must appear unkempt or behave in an unruly manner.

“You know, people see those who sell meat as thugs. They always dress dirty, fight. But I just want to change the narrative. Me, being a fashionista, I’m bringing it into my business. I want to combine the two,” Muraina explained.

He urged Nigerians, particularly young entrepreneurs, to pay attention to their appearance, stressing that good dressing could influence how people perceive and interact with them.

“There is an adage that says, ‘Dress the way you want to be addressed.’ So, there is nobody who will see me like this, come to my stand and harass me, or talk to me anyhow. So, the only message I’m going to give to other people is: always look good,” he said.

Muraina disclosed that his interest in meat selling was not accidental, as he learnt the trade from his father from an early age.

“I’ve been following my dad right from when I was this small, to the market, to sell meat. So, since then, I’ve had an interest, not just ordinary interest, but a passion for selling meat,” he said.

Beyond his distinctive appearance, Muraina has also embraced social media to expand his customer base and promote his business.

He said platforms such as TikTok, Instagram and Facebook had helped to expose his business to customers beyond his immediate environment.

“Social media has already played a vital role in my business. Because anything you are doing, this is now a new age, let’s say computer age. Anything you are doing, you have to put it out there so that people can see,” he said.

According to him, the online visibility generated by his content has translated into patronage, with customers discovering his business through various social media platforms.
