Communities across Ogun State are set to benefit from 60 new boreholes facilitated by the Senator representing Ogun West, Solomon Adeola, as part of efforts to improve access to potable water across the state.
According to a statement issued on Friday by Chief Kayode Odunaro, Media Adviser to Senator Adeola, the projects are being executed across the three senatorial districts based on communal requests, priority needs and technical feasibility.
The projects, which are currently at various stages of completion, include site assessment and surveying, drilling, casing, pump installation and testing. The contractors handling the projects have been fully mobilised, with completion expected within the next 10 days.
Adeola, who is also the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Ogun State, said the initiative was intended to complement the water supply efforts of the state government.
“I am happy to announce that in the next few days, some of our people in communities in need of potable water across our senatorial districts will start enjoying the commodity, complementary to major water works of the administration of our governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun,” he said.
The senator explained that the projects were selected based on requests received by his office, with priority given to communities with urgent needs and a high number of potential beneficiaries.
“The projects were facilitated based on requests to my office and prioritised on the basis of urgent need and expected numbers of beneficiaries,” Adeola added.
The distribution of the 60 boreholes shows that Ogun West will receive 21, Ogun Central 20, while Ogun East will benefit from 19.
At the local government level, Yewa South and Abeokuta North listed among the areas with the highest number of projects, with seven boreholes each and Ado-Odo/Ota will receive five. Other local government areas will benefit from varying numbers of boreholes.
Communities and townships listed among the beneficiaries include Obasanjo Hill Top, Alubarika Bode Olude Opeji, Omida Community, Moriwi Community, Pahayi Police Station in Ilaro, Ijado, Ijako and Owode Obafe.
Others include Ogijo Market, Igbore Community in Ikenne, Odo Alere Quarters in Ososa, Ibiade Community and Imakun Community, among others.
Adeola said the boreholes would be powered with appropriate generators to ensure efficient operation and management.
He added that beyond providing water for domestic use, the projects were expected to support economic activities and contribute to preventive healthcare in beneficiary communities.
“I hope that not only will the projects be useful for domestic and other economic purposes, but will complement programmes for preventive healthcare for our people,” the senator said.
