The Ogun State Government is deepening its collaboration with the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) to bolster security and enhance aviation development, Governor Dapo Abiodun has said.

Abiodun, who disclosed this during a meeting with the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Hassan Abubakar, at the NAF Headquarters in Abuja, emphasized that the partnership is crucial to positioning the Gateway International Airport as a major hub for trade, investment, and logistics.

The governor highlighted the strategic role of the Nigerian Air Force in ensuring the security and operational efficiency of the airport, adding that plans were underway to establish an Air Force base within the facility.

According to him, this initiative will not only strengthen the state’s security framework but also stimulate economic activities and attract investors.

“As we strive to position the airport as a key hub for trade and investment, we recognize the vital role of the Nigerian Air Force in enhancing its security and operational efficiency”.

“Strengthening this partnership will not only advance our aviation objectives but also contribute to the overall safety and economic growth of Ogun State”, Abiodun stated.

He expressed appreciation to Air Marshal Abubakar for his “proactiveness, responsiveness, and positive disposition” toward the state’s request, adding that the establishment of an Air Force base at the airport was a step in reinforcing Ogun’s status as an economic powerhouse.

“Our government remains committed to fostering strategic partnerships with key security agencies to ensure the safety and prosperity of our people,” Abiodun affirmed.

In his remarks, Air Marshal Hassan Abubakar commended the Ogun State Government for its proactive approach to security and infrastructure development.

He assured the governor of the Air Force’s support in achieving the vision for the Gateway International Airport, describing it as a project of national significance.

“The Nigerian Air Force is open to collaboration that enhances security and economic growth,” Abubakar said. “We recognize the importance of the Gateway International Airport and will continue to engage with the state government to achieve common objectives.”
