Motorists plying the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway have been advised to seek alternative routes as repair work on the expansion joints at Kara Bridge causes heavy traffic around the Longbridge to MFM axis.
This was contained in a traffic advisory issued by the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps, TRACE, on Wednesday, and signed by its Public Relations Officer, Media and Strategy, Commander Babatunde Akinbiyi.
TRACE said the traffic situation was worsened by some motorists driving against traffic, a violation of traffic regulations, in an attempt to bypass the congestion caused by the ongoing repairs on the outbound section of the carriageway.
The agency said TRACE, the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA, and the Police were making efforts to restore normal traffic flow along the affected corridor.
It advised motorists heading towards Lagos to consider alternative routes to avoid being caught in the gridlock.
Those coming from the Interchange were advised to use the Abeokuta-Sango Expressway, while motorists travelling from Sagamu were advised to take the Sagamu-Ogijo-Ikorodu Road.
Motorists coming from the eastern part of the country were also advised to use the Ijebu-Ode/Epe Expressway to access Lagos.
TRACE urged motorists to remain patient, obey traffic regulations and cooperate with traffic management personnel deployed to the affected area while the repair work continues.
