Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, has said Nigerians who fail to recognise the progress made under President Bola Tinubu’s administration may need what she described as “Bola Tinubu eyeglasses” to appreciate the country’s development.

She made the remark on Friday during the inauguration of the Abuja headquarters of the PBAT Door-to-Door Movement, a grassroots mobilisation group campaigning for the president’s re-election in 2027.

According to her, the country is recording changes that should be visible to Nigerians, particularly in the development of key infrastructure, including airports.

“So things are happening in Nigeria, except, you know, those who don’t see; maybe we’ll give them some, you know, Bola Tinubu eyeglasses. We are doing that, JigiBola,” she said.

Jigi-Bola is an eye-care initiative introduced by President Tinubu in 2001 when he was governor of Lagos State. The programme provided services such as free eye screening, eyeglasses and surgery. It was relaunched by the Lagos State Government in 2021.

Mrs Tinubu cited improvements at Nigerian airports as evidence of the changes taking place in the country, adding that she looked forward to travelling more conveniently.

“I want to get to the airport. I want to travel, you know, so quickly. And you can see our airports too are changing,” she said.

The First Lady also expressed optimism about Nigeria’s future, saying she hoped to leave the Presidential Villa in 2031 and enjoy a better country as an older woman.

“I want to leave Aso Rock, in 2031, by the grace of God, and enter a Nigeria that me as a 70-something-year-old woman will enjoy,” she said.

She subsequently commissioned the Abuja headquarters of the PBAT Door-to-Door Movement, expressing confidence in the president’s re-election prospects ahead of the 2027 general election.

“So to the glory of God, and for the victory of Mr President come 2027, I hereby formally commission the PBAT door-to-door movement campaign headquarters Abuja,” she said.

Mrs Tinubu also expressed support for the All Progressives Congress and the movement’s convener, Government Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo.
