A 36-year-old man, Shobande Taofeek, has been arrested by the Ogun State Police Command over alleged vandalism and theft of railway infrastructure in the Arigbajo area of the state.
The police also recovered 16 railway iron rods and two gas cylinders suspected to have been stolen during the alleged operation.
The Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, Oluseyi Babaseyi, disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday.
According to the statement, operatives of the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Unit arrested the suspect on October 23, 2026, following intelligence reports about the alleged vandalism and theft of railway materials in the area.
Babaseyi said the operatives intensified surveillance and patrols around the affected location before apprehending the suspect.
He explained that the suspect subsequently led the operatives to an uncompleted building where the stolen materials were recovered as exhibits.
The police spokesperson added that preliminary investigations indicated that the suspect had allegedly confessed to participating in similar offences on three previous occasions.
He said efforts were ongoing to apprehend other suspects connected with the crime and recover additional stolen property.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, Bode Ojajuni, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to protecting public assets, safeguarding critical infrastructure and bringing perpetrators of economic sabotage to justice.
Ojajuni urged residents to cooperate with the police by providing timely and credible information that could assist crime prevention efforts and enhance security across the state.
