Senator Solomon Adeola, the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Ogun State, has promised to establish a New Towns Development Authority and work towards revitalising the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital (OOUTH), Sagamu, if elected governor in 2027.
Adeola made the promises during an interactive session with Remo Collectives, a socio-cultural group of accomplished Remo indigenes, over the weekend. The meeting was attended by the Akarigbo and Paramount Ruler of Remoland, Oba Babatunde Ajayi, according to a press release issued on Sunday by Chief Kayode Odunaro, Media Adviser to the senator and Chairman of the Media and Publicity Committee of the Ogun State APC Campaign Council.
The senator said the proposed New Towns Development Authority would be responsible for developing new towns with modern infrastructure, while existing towns and communities would be developed and preserved as historical legacies.
He also promised to establish a Ministry of Wealth Creation under his proposed nine-pillar ITESIWAJU agenda, with a focus on job creation through skills acquisition and empowerment programmes for youths and women.
Responding to calls for improved healthcare facilities in the state, Adeola pledged to work with Governor Dapo Abiodun to revitalise OOUTH before December, describing inclusive healthcare and wellbeing as a key component of his agenda.
He disclosed that he was facilitating the construction of a four-storey hospital building at Remo General Hospital, adding that the project, which is currently at the roofing stage, was expected to be completed in December.
According to him, 14 similar projects are also ongoing across the state.
Adeola further promised to revitalise the Ogun State Road Maintenance Agency, the Ogun State Environmental Protection Agency and the Ogun State Waste Management Agency to improve infrastructure maintenance and environmental management.
He commended President Bola Tinubu for economic reforms which he said were beginning to yield results, expressing optimism that the benefits would eventually reach ordinary Nigerians.
The APC governorship candidate also praised Abiodun for laying what he described as a solid economic foundation for the state through projects such as the International Cargo Airport, proposed inland dry ports in Ijebu and Egba, and the planned $7 billion deep seaport.
He said the projects would strengthen Ogun’s revenue base, promote economic expansion and position the state to compete favourably with Lagos.
Adeola disclosed that he had facilitated more than 36 infrastructure projects across Remoland, covering roads, education, solar-powered streetlights, rural electrification, modern markets, information and communication technology centres, and primary healthcare facilities.
Earlier, the Akarigbo urged the senator to focus on creating additional local government areas or local development areas for Remoland rather than pursuing state creation.
Oba Ajayi suggested that Sagamu could be divided into three or four local government areas to improve administration and development.
The monarch also commended Adeola for attracting infrastructure projects to Remoland, including the construction of the road leading to his palace.
In his welcome address, the President of Remo Collectives, Akintayo Rabiu, who was represented by his deputy, Olumide Onimole, said the group invited the senator to explain his development plans for Ogun State, particularly Remoland.
Other dignitaries at the meeting included the Elepe of Epe, Oba Adewale Oshiberu; elder statesman and Aare Gbo Gbo of Remoland, Otunba Kola Oyefeso; and Gboyega Nosiru Isiaka, representing Imeko-Afon/Yewa North Federal Constituency.
Also present were the Ogun State Commissioner for Budget and Planning, Laolu Olabimtan; the state APC Organising Secretary, Yemi Adelani; the Managing Director of the Ogun-Osun River Basin Development Authority, Prince Deji Ashiru; and a former chairman of Sagamu Local Government Area, Daisi Akintan.
