Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has urged the Dangote Group and contractors handling the 100-kilometer Sagamu-Papalanto-Iro-Ilaro-Obelle road to accelerate construction, targeting 70% completion by December 2025.

Speaking during an inspection tour of the project alongside Dangote Group President, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, and other dignitaries, Abiodun emphasized the economic significance of the road, describing it as a vital East-West corridor linking Ogun West and East Senatorial Districts to the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

Abiodun stated that the industrial estates of Ota and Agbara would benefit immensely from the road’s reconstruction, as it would attract investors and boost trade.

“We are here again on the Sagamu-Papalanto-Ilaro-Obelle road, which spans 100 kilometers. By year-end, we expect substantial progress. This corridor, though underdeveloped now, will soon rival the Sagamu-Abeokuta Expressway, thanks to its proximity to gas supply and shorter industrial routes,” he said.

The Governor disclosed that the road’s design includes reinforced concrete layers to accommodate heavy-duty trucks, ensuring durability.

“Initially, the plan was for an asphalt-paved road, but Alhaji Dangote, in his commitment to Ogun State’s future, recommended a concrete road that will last longer and serve both the state and Nigeria better,” Abiodun revealed.

Alhaji Aliko Dangote, while addressing the delegation, reaffirmed that the road would be a catalyst for Ogun’s industrial growth, unlocking new opportunities for businesses and residents.

“This isn’t just another road; it’s a gateway to economic transformation. With improved accessibility, industries will spring up, generating employment and fostering economic prosperity. This will be Ogun’s new industrial hub,” Dangote stated.

He added that land along the corridor would soon be allocated for factories, ensuring that locals benefit from job creation and business expansion.

“People living here will see a total transformation in their lives, with opportunities for sustainable income. The government’s vision aligns with ours in making this a thriving industrial zone,” he noted.

Abiodun expressed optimism that once completed, the road would significantly contribute to Ogun State’s GDP, facilitating movement for goods and services.

He reiterated his administration’s commitment to infrastructure development as a foundation for economic prosperity.
