The Ogun State Community, Social Orientation and Safety Corps, popularly known as So-Safe Corps, has recovered a motorcycle during an investigation into the alleged theft of a Bajaj Boxer motorcycle in Ifo Local Government Area of the state.
The recovery followed a report by a 31-year-old mechanical engineer and So-Safe Corps officer, Mr Ayobami Kushimo, who alleged that his motorcycle was stolen from his residence at Aboki Ifa Bus Stop, Ifo, in the early hours of Friday, September 18, 2026.
Kushimo said the motorcycle, a Bajaj Boxer with a red and blue-painted fuel tank and registration number JJJ 732 QM, was acquired through an instalment payment arrangement, which he was yet to complete before the incident.
Following the report, the Acting Divisional Officer of the So-Safe Corps, Onireke Division, ASC Jinadu Okikiola T., mobilised personnel to the scene to assess the circumstances surrounding the alleged theft.
Preliminary investigation indicated that the suspected perpetrators allegedly gained access to the residence through a kitchen window after removing its glass. They reportedly entered the kitchen, removed the motorcycle and opened the passage door before taking it away.
The Acting Divisional Officer subsequently commenced intelligence gathering and extended the search to strategic locations and entry points within the community.
During the investigation, the complainant reportedly disclosed that the motorcycle had been experiencing mechanical problems and could intermittently stop after operating for several hours.
According to the Corps, information received at about 10 p.m. on September 18 from a resident of Shonekan town led investigators to intensify their search around the Shonekan and Agbegise boundary.
The resident reportedly told the officers that he had encountered two unidentified persons between about 1:30 a.m. and 2 a.m. while they were struggling with a motorcycle during a night vigil.
He said he challenged the individuals, who subsequently fled after he questioned them. The resident thereafter remained vigilant in the hope that they would return for the motorcycle.
Acting on the information, the Acting Divisional Officer and his team searched the area and discovered a motorcycle concealed in a bush near the Agbegise River.
The recovered motorcycle had registration number PKA 598 VK written in red paint. The Corps said the motorcycle was recovered as part of the ongoing investigation, stressing that further investigation was required to establish its ownership and determine whether it was connected to the motorcycle reported stolen by Kushimo.
On Saturday, September 19, 2026, the Acting Divisional Officer, accompanied by the complainant, proceeded to Ifo Police Station, where the recovered motorcycle was formally handed over to the Nigeria Police Force for further investigation.
The motorcycle remains in police custody at the Ifo Police Station pending the outcome of the investigation.
The State Commander of the Corps, Dr Soji Ganzallo, commended the Acting Divisional Officer and officers of the Onireke Division for their response, intelligence gathering and engagement with members of the community.
Ganzallo also stressed the importance of community-based intelligence gathering and collaboration with residents, community leaders, hunters and other security stakeholders in preventing and detecting crime across Ogun State.
He urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious persons, movements and abandoned vehicles or motorcycles to the nearest security agency.
The Corps said photographs and video evidence relating to both the motorcycle reported stolen and the recovered motorcycle had been documented and made available to the relevant authorities.
It added that the matter would continue to be handled in accordance with the law as the police investigate the alleged theft and seek to establish the identity and ownership of the recovered motorcycle.
