In a continued effort to empower his constituents, Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola Yayi, representing Ogun West senatorial district, donated a multi-million naira sum and a brand new 18-seater Toyota bus to the Theatre Arts and Motion Pictures Practitioners Association of Nigeria (TAMPAN) on Wednesday. The donation was part of his ongoing support for the arts and culture sector.

Senator Yayi made the generous gesture shortly after being honored as the Grand Patron of TAMPAN in Ogun State at the Ogun Annual Theatre Fiesta, Lecture, and Award Presentation, which took place in Ilaro.

During the event, TAMPAN’s Global President, Otunba Bolaji Amusan, popularly known as Mr. Latin, decorated Senator Yayi, recognizing him for his outstanding philanthropic efforts aimed at improving the lives of the less privileged in society.

“We are gathered here today to celebrate a performer, a visioner, and an exemplary leader. Senator Yayi is an unapologetic philanthropist and a cheerful giver who has changed the face of politics in Ogun State. His work has touched the lives of many in Yewaland and beyond,” Mr. Latin said.

Mr. Latin, alongside TAMPAN Board of Trustees Chairman Adebayo Salami and thespian Dele Odule, explained that the decision to award Senator Yayi as Grand Patron and Distinguished Personality of the Year was in recognition of his humanitarian service and the significant community development projects he has initiated in his constituency.

“We urge other lawmakers across the country to emulate Senator Yayi’s example, as he is one who brings the dividends of democracy directly to the people,” Mr. Latin added.

Senator Yayi, who is known for his compassion and transparent leadership, was deeply moved by the recognition. In his response, he emphasized that his drive to serve humanity was influenced by his upbringing and the ongoing challenges faced by his constituents.

“I have always been a lover of Yoruba movies and our rich culture. The entertainment industry is hugely undervalued in Nigeria, and it is time for us to recognize the vital role it plays in our economy and society. I promise to continue supporting the industry in every way possible,” Senator Yayi said.

He also acknowledged the negative impact of piracy on the entertainment sector, promising that the Nigerian Senate would take steps to protect intellectual property rights.

“Piracy has been detrimental to the growth of the movie industry, but with the support of the Renewed Hope Agenda under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, we are determined to bring positive change to the sector. The entertainment industry should expect better days ahead as we work to protect your rights and improve your livelihoods,” Senator Yayi assured the gathering.

He further pledged to advocate for legislation that would impose stricter punishments on those involved in piracy and provide financial grants to movie producers.

As the event concluded, TAMPAN members expressed their gratitude for the senator’s support, with hopes that his contributions would inspire greater development in the entertainment industry and other sectors.
