Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has congratulated Remo Stars Football Club on their historic triumph in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL), describing the win as an “unprecedented feat” in the sporting history of the state.

Remo Stars clinched their first-ever NPFL title with a 1-0 win over Niger Tornadoes on Sunday, April 27, a result that has now etched the Ikenne-based club’s name in Nigeria’s football history books.

In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Strategy, Hon. Kayode Akinmade, the Governor said the team’s dedication, resilience, and relentless pursuit of excellence exemplify the “first-capacity spirit” Ogun State is known for.

“This is an unprecedented achievement that mirrors the relentless Ogun spirit — a spirit of excellence, courage, and consistency,” Governor Abiodun stated.

The Governor praised the club’s journey from its formation to its ascension to Nigeria’s elite football ranks, noting that Remo Stars’ promotion to the NPFL just four years ago had now culminated in a crowning glory.

“Their perseverance and determination are finally rewarded. This victory is not only for Remo Stars but for every young Nigerian who believes in hard work and vision,” he added.

Remo Stars also became the first privately-owned team to win the NPFL title since Julius Berger in 2000 — a feat that automatically qualifies them for a slot in the CAF Champions League.

“As the first privately-owned NPFL champions since 2000, their unwavering determination has set a new benchmark for others to follow,” Abiodun said. “It is a moment of immense pride not just for Ogun State but for Nigeria as a whole.”

The Governor also commended the players, coaching crew, and management team for their professionalism and patriotic spirit, urging other local clubs in Nigeria to emulate their resilience and commitment to the development of the local league.

“This victory is a reflection of our transformation agenda under the ISEYA mantra. We are proud of Remo Stars for raising Ogun’s flag high and showing that excellence is attainable through hard work and vision,” he concluded.
