The Alaafin of Oyo, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade, will on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, embark on a historic visit to Iwo to meet with the Oluwo of Iwoland, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Abdulrosheed Adewale Akanbi.
The visit, which royal watchers have described as significant, is expected to deepen the enduring bond between the two ancient Yoruba kingdoms of Oyo and Iwo.
Confirming the development in a statement, the Chief Press Secretary to the Oluwo, Alli Ibraheem, described the visit as “historic and symbolic,” and urged the people of Iwo to come out en masse to receive the Oyo monarch.
“On Tuesday, 3rd June, 2025, the Alaafin of the Oyo Empire, Iku Baba Yeye, Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade, will visit the Paramount Ruler of Iwoland, HIM Oba Abdulrosheed Adewale Akanbi, in his palace,” Ibraheem stated.
He emphasized that the royal relationship between the two revered stools is built on a strong historical foundation and mutual respect.
“The royal affinity between the two stools is muscular, and the two monarchs are committed to sustaining it,” he added.
The Oluwo has also called on all well-meaning indigenes of Iwo, both at home and in the diaspora, to show up in large numbers and demonstrate the famed hospitality that the town is known for.
“I enjoin all sons and daughters of Iwo to troop out and showcase the hospitality prowess Iwo is known for from time immemorial, in receiving Iku Baba Yeye, Oba Owoade,” the Oluwo said.
