Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has declared that he owes no one an explanation over the peace deal reached with Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, saying the political crisis rocking the state is now over.
Wike, during a media chat monitored in Abuja on Thursday, maintained that peace has finally returned to Rivers State and dismissed insinuations from critics demanding details of the reconciliation.
According to him, some individuals had turned the political tension in the state into a money-making opportunity for their selfish interests, describing them as “fifth columnists” who are now unhappy with the resolution of the crisis.
“I don’t owe anybody any explanation. Peace has returned to Rivers, that’s what matters,” Wike stated.
The former Rivers Governor alleged that those exploiting the political dispute for personal gains are disappointed that the feud between him and Fubara has been resolved.
“Some people turned the crisis to an oil well, making money off it. Now that peace has returned, they are not happy,” he added.
The rift between Wike and Fubara, which has dominated national discourse for months, saw political tension heighten in Rivers, leading to fears of instability in the oil-rich state.
However, both parties recently announced that they have reconciled, though the specifics of the agreement remain undisclosed.
