The Nigeria Customs Service, Ogun 1 Area Command, has intercepted a 2021 Rolls Royce Ghost valued at N905 million, alongside other contrabands including thousands of bags of rice and parcels of cannabis, with a total duty paid value of N1.4 billion.

The Customs Area Controller, Comptroller Godwin Otunla, made the disclosure during a press briefing at Idiroko on Thursday.

Otunla explained that the seizures included a 2014 Mercedes Benz worth N21.4 million, a 2018 Honda Accord valued at N32.2 million, 4,424 bags of foreign parboiled rice amounting to over seven truckloads, 1,936 parcels of cannabis sativa, and 105 used tyres.

According to him, “The seizures are a fall out of the command’s firm commitment not to relent in combating the menace of smuggling, nor bow to the antics of recalcitrant economic saboteurs who undermine our nation’s economy and security.”

In addition to the anti-smuggling operations, the command generated a revenue of N45.05 million in July 2025, representing a 27.47 per cent increase compared to N35.3 million recorded in July 2024.

Otunla further stated that the illicit drugs seized were handed over to the Commander of the NDLEA, Idiroko Special Command, Ekundayo Williams, for further investigation and necessary action.

He warned smugglers to desist from the illegal trade, stressing that the command would remain vigilant. “No matter the sophistication of your tricks, our officers will continue to thwart your antics, and we shall bring the full weight of the law against you,” he said.

The Comptroller appreciated the resilience of his officers, the cooperation of border communities, and the support of sister security agencies in curbing smuggling activities.
