A former Deputy Governor of Ondo State and governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the November 2024 election, Chief Ajayi Agboola, has explained why he withdrew his appeal at the Supreme Court challenging the victory of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Agboola, who had earlier approached the apex court to contest Aiyedatiwa’s declaration as winner of the poll, said his decision to discontinue the case was taken after wide consultations with his family, political associates and legal advisers.

In a letter addressed to the Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court and personally signed by him, Agboola noted that while he was fully aware of the appeal filed on his behalf, he resolved to step back from the legal tussle in the interest of peace and good governance in Ondo State.

He explained that his political career had always been guided by the values of peace and democracy, stressing that the unity of the people and development of the state were far more important than prolonged political disputes.

“I have engaged in thoughtful discussions with my family, party members, associates, and legal advisors. After careful deliberation, we have reached a consensus that the appeal should be withdrawn, and I hereby do so. My foremost commitment is to good governance and peaceful coexistence in Ondo State and Nigeria,” he stated.

Agboola further extended his goodwill to Governor Aiyedatiwa, wishing him success in steering the affairs of the state.

He pledged to continue contributing positively to the growth and stability of Ondo State, irrespective of political affiliations.
