The Ekiti State Government has announced a ban on graduation ceremonies for pupils in kindergarten, nursery, primary and secondary schools across the state.

The directive, which affects both public and private schools, will take effect from the 2025/2026 academic session.

According to the government, the policy is designed to ease financial burdens on parents, curb excesses often associated with elaborate graduation events, and strengthen the focus on academic development.

Schools have been directed to concentrate on academic activities rather than organizing lavish ceremonies, with strict compliance expected across the state.

The Ministry of Education noted that sanctions may apply to schools that fail to adhere to the directive.

In line with the new measures, the government also announced an adjustment in the textbook review policy. While primary schools will continue with their existing six-year review cycle, secondary schools will now adopt a four-year cycle instead of the current three-year arrangement.

Parents and guardians are also encouraged to pass down textbooks in good condition to younger siblings as part of efforts to reduce costs and promote sustainability.

The government stressed that the decision reflects its commitment to making education more affordable and accessible for families in the state.
