Crystal Palace stunned Premier League leaders Liverpool with a dramatic 2–1 victory at Selhurst Park on Saturday, thanks to Eddie Nketiah’s 97th-minute winner that extended the Eagles’ unbeaten run and lifted them to second place in the table.

The hosts made a bright start and deservedly took the lead in the first half when Ismaila Sarr fired home from close range after Liverpool failed to deal with a corner.

The champions struggled to cope with Palace’s energy and attacking movement, with Jean-Philippe Mateta also hitting the post before halftime.

Liverpool improved after the break and eventually drew level three minutes from time through substitute Federico Chiesa, who converted from close range to seemingly rescue a point for Arne Slot’s side.

However, Crystal Palace had the final say in stoppage time. A long throw from Chris Richards was flicked on by captain Marc Guehi, allowing Nketiah to slot home at the back post. The goal survived a tight offside review before being confirmed, sparking jubilant scenes among the home fans.

The victory means Palace move to within three points of Liverpool and remain the only unbeaten team in the Premier League this season.

Speaking after the game, Palace manager Oliver Glasner praised his players’ resilience and composure.

“It makes me really proud of the group,” Glasner said. “The first half was the best since I arrived. We knew Liverpool could come back, but the players kept their heads and turned the momentum again. It was a real team effort.”

He also hailed captain Marc Guehi’s influence, describing him as “focused, consistent, and fantastic every game.”

Liverpool boss Arne Slot admitted his side struggled to deal with Palace’s intensity, especially from set-pieces.

“The first half was very difficult for us. Palace deserved to be one goal up,” Slot said. “We improved after the break but were punished again from a set piece. In this league, small margins make the difference. We must be better.”

The result marks another significant step forward for Glasner’s men, who have now gone 18 games unbeaten in all competitions equalling a club record set in 1969.

Crystal Palace will look to continue their impressive run when they travel for their next fixture, while Liverpool must regroup as the title race tightens.
