Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, has called on residents to observe a voluntary fasting and prayer on Monday, November 24, to seek divine guidance in addressing renewed security challenges across the state.
In a statewide broadcast on Saturday, Zulum urged citizens to “remain calm, steadfast, and united” during this difficult period, stressing that collective prayer can strengthen communal faith and bring relief to affected communities.
The governor reassured the public of his administration’s commitment to stability, security, and welfare, and promised support for farmers to boost agricultural production.
He also appealed to religious and community leaders to back the initiative.
Highlighting the impact of the insurgency, Zulum noted that millions of people have been displaced across all 27 local government areas, disrupting socio-economic activities and livelihoods.
Despite these challenges, he commended the resilience and unity of Borno residents in overcoming the crisis.
“The relative peace currently enjoyed in the state is a result of our collective efforts, putting aside ethnic, religious, and sectional differences to confront a common enemy. We rallied behind our armed forces and other security agencies,” the governor said.
Zulum encouraged all residents, regardless of faith, to participate in the fasting and prayer, emphasizing that security strategies must be underpinned by faith.
He also highlighted the importance of empowering vulnerable groups, including youth and women, to ensure no one is left behind in the state’s recovery process.
The governor urged displaced persons to remain hopeful, assuring them that their safe return to their communities is a priority.
He reiterated the administration’s dedication to improving security, enhancing economic opportunities, and delivering quality services across Borno.
“The road to recovery is not easy, but with unity and perseverance, we can overcome any obstacle. Together, Borno can build a stable, prosperous, and hopeful future,” Zulum said.
