Ahead of the 2025 National Sports Festival, members of the Ogun State House of Assembly Committee on Youth and Sports have commended the state government for its commitment to upgrading sports infrastructure.

The lawmakers, during an inspection tour, assessed the level of preparedness at MKO Abiola Stadium and Ijeja Stadium, where major renovations are ongoing.

Leading the delegation, Hon. Lukmon Atobatele, Chairman of the Committee, praised the administration’s efforts in ensuring that the state’s facilities meet international sporting standards.

“The level of investment in these infrastructures shows the government’s commitment to maximizing the benefits of the festival,” he said.

The lawmakers, including Hon. Folawewo Salami, Wasiu Ayodele, Oyedele Adebisi, and Adegoke Adeyanju, urged contractors handling the projects to ensure timely completion without compromising quality or safety.

During the visit, Ogun State Commissioner for Sports Development, Wasiu Isiaka, emphasized the administration’s vision for sports advancement, stating, “The facilities being put in place are not just for the festival but to promote youth participation in sports and curb social vices.”

He assured that all projects were progressing steadily and would be completed before the event in May.

The inspection covered various sporting sections at the MKO Abiola Stadium, including the eight-lane tartan track, football pitch, swimming pool, handball, and tennis courts.

The lawmakers also assessed the squash and handball courts, weightlifting and powerlifting arena, and the indoor hall at Ijeja Stadium.
