Governor Ademola Adeleke has reaffirmed that the local government election in Osun State will hold as scheduled on Saturday under the supervision of the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSIEC).
In a statement signed by his spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, Adeleke noted that Osun voters are fully prepared to exercise their rights at the polls and expressed confidence in the electoral body’s level of preparedness.
“Our people are prepared for the elections tomorrow. They are eager to choose their chairmen and councillors,” the statement read. “OSIEC has done a commendable job, and reports at my disposal indicate that several political parties are participating. I believe there will be a level playing ground for all candidates to test their popularity with the electorate.”
Addressing concerns and controversies surrounding the election, the governor emphasized the importance of upholding democratic principles and the rule of law.
“Democracy operates within the framework of legality, and no one should assume the authority of the courts,” Adeleke stated.
“My advice to all stakeholders, both local and national, is to abide by democratic norms. As for me and my people, we stand by the rule of law, not illegal self-help.”
The statement further assured that the election’s outcome would contribute to grassroots development and urged residents to maintain peace.
“Election is going to hold, and the outcome will accelerate development at the local level. I urge our people to remain peaceful. Osun is a truly peaceful state,” Adeleke added.
