The Federal Government has confirmed that Nigeria’s diplomatic disagreement with the United States has been resolved, with both countries now enjoying stronger bilateral relations.

Speaking at a year end press conference in Abuja, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, said the tension was triggered by comments made by United States President, Donald Trump, who described Nigeria as a country of particular concern over allegations of killings of Christians.

Idris said Nigeria engaged the United States through dialogue and diplomatic communication, dismissing fears that the situation would damage long standing relations between both nations.

He said the outcome of the engagement showed Nigeria’s growing confidence and strategic positioning on the global stage.

According to the minister, the improved relationship was demonstrated by the recent signing of a five year health cooperation agreement between both countries, valued at 5.1 billion dollars.

He explained that the United States would contribute 2.1 billion dollars as grant funding, while Nigeria would provide 3 billion dollars to strengthen healthcare delivery across the country.

Idris added that the agreement was the largest co investment recorded under the America First Global Health Strategy and would boost health outcomes and attract additional foreign investment.

On diplomatic representation, the minister disclosed that Nigeria’s newly appointed ambassadors would resume duties in their respective countries in 2026 after confirmation by the National Assembly, noting that their deployment would further enhance Nigeria’s international engagement.
